Metamorphosis is a segment from a broader series (‘Incidental’, 2024) that explores trans* identity in conjunction with love and loneliness. These self-portraits come from scans of Instax prints, taken from when I was a teenager. During this period of time, I was quite alone and had a lot of time to think about my gender identity; I spent a lot of time in my attic room with leftover makeup, face paint and cheap nail polish, attempting to make myself into something desirable by others. Much like an old school actresses glamour shots, these seek to create a sense of beauty. But the surface has been scratched up, because perfection does not exist.
